Rich man and Lazarus

Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus

THE RICH MAN: UNSAVED CHURCH

Lu 16:19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

Re 18:15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,

Re 18:16 And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!

Re 18:19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate. (one hour is a time reference and usually points to the tribulation and depart out (Day and the Hour).

Re 18:10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.

Re 18:3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

Re 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

Lu 12:20 But God said unto him (rich man), Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

Lu 12:21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

THE BEGGAR LAZARUS: ELECT - THE POOR

Lu 16:20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,

Lu 16:21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

Eze 34:3 Ye eat the fat, and ye clothe you with the wool, ye kill them that are fed: but ye feed not the flock.

Eze 34:8 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely because my flock became a prey, and my flock became meat to every beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my flock, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my flock;

Isa 58:7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?

Mt 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Lu 14:13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:

DEATH AND BURIAL – SALVATION: ELECT ARE BURIED BY GOD. UNSAVED BURY EACH OTHER:

Lu 16:22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

Joh 11:16 Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.

Ro 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (Elect body had one chance of finding salvation in Christ (death) while the door was open and while God gave her space to repent (Re 2:21). The tribulation is a time when no man can work (Joh 9:4) then the door is shut at the revelation of Christ (Judgment – Mt 25:10).

Re 9:6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.

Pr 21:6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.

Mt 27:7 And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in.

Mt 27:8 Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.

(The potter’s field or field of blood, the price paid by Judas for the betrayal of Christ was used to bury strangers (salvation of the elect) due to the fact that His blood was shed with that money).

THE BURIAL OF THE WICKED

Mt 8:22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

Ho 9:6 For, lo, they are gone because of destruction: Egypt shall gather them up, Memphis shall bury them: the pleasant places for their silver, nettles shall possess them: thorns shall be in their tabernacles.

Jer 22:18 Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah; They shall not lament for him, saying, Ah my brother! or, Ah sister! they shall not lament for him, saying, Ah lord! or, Ah his glory!

Jer 22:19 He shall be buried with the burial of an ass, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

HELL, THE PIT, LAKE OF FIRE: GOD’S COMPLETE WRATH AND DESTRUCTION ON THE CHURCH AFTER THE TRIBULATION:

Lu 16:23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

Lu 13:28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.

Ps 121:1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

Lu 18:13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. (Lifting up the eyes appears to be language of one seeking salvation. Here the publican wanted salvation but is seeking it very humbly, knowing that he’s undeserving).

Re 18:17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off, (one hour is a time reference and usually points to the tribulation and depart out (Day and the Hour). It’s at this time the church body is seeing the separation).

Lu 16:24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

Jer 5:14 Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

Ps 109:2 For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.

Pr 21:6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death. (Can we see how the rich man is asking for water (gospel) to cool his lying tongue? This would be the same as those seeking death and not finding it, right?)

Lu 16:25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. (Elect are comforted in Christ at the depart out as they go to be with Him on the mountains. They are now in the bosom of Abraham as the Word, Christ, is revealed to them).

Isa 40:1 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.

Isa 40:2 Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD’S hand double for all her sins.

Isa 66:13 As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem.

Re 9:5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.

Re 14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: (The church body rich man wants to cool his tongue from the fire of God’s wrath as it is overrun by locusts).

AN UNPENATRABLE SEPARATION BETWEEN THE TWO: NO SALVATION?

Lu 16:26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. (Separation of wheat and tares?)

Ex 11:7 But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.

Ex 14:19 And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them:

Ex 14:20 And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came NOT near the other all the night.

Mt 25:32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

Re 22:15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

Lu 16:27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house:

Lu 16:28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. (The number five in this context has to be pointing to God’s judgment on the whole body. His father’s house seems to relate to God’s wrath on the whole body. The rich man is concerned for his brothers, but according to the Bible, the whole house is under judgment).

1Sa 2:31 Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father‘s house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house.

Es 4:14 For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father‘s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

Isa 7:17 The LORD shall bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father‘s house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah; even the king of Assyria.

Lu 16:29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. (Moses and the prophets seem to point to the two witnesses, the law and the prophets, the Bible).

Lu 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

Lu 24:44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

Joh 1:45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

Lu 16:30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.

Lu 16:31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. (Remember the time for repentance and to find salvation in Christ (to die) has past. Now the two witnesses who were killed at the start of the tribulation have risen. What Abraham appears to be telling the rich man is that if they did not become saved prior to the depart out (not listening to Moses and the prophets), then neither will they listen to the Word of God today that is proclaimed by those who have risen from the dead).

Re 11:11 And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.

Eze 37:12 Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel.

Joh 11:43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. (It seems the resurrection of Lazarus was ultimately pointing to the resurrection of the Elect body in Christ today).

SUMMARY:

Rich man = Unsaved church body feeding themselves but are not rich towards God

Lazarus = Elect body, now being fed by God because the rich man would not feed it

Death = Both die and are buried. Elect are buried with Christ by God, while the unsaved burry each other providing a false assurance of salvation

Resurrection = Judgment Day, Christ revealed, separation of wheat and tares

Hell = Unsaved body under God’s judgment

Flame = Fire of God’s judgment as the locusts destroy the body with false gospels that cannot provide the proper burial in Christ. The rich man is seeking water (salvation, gospel) to cool his lying tongue

Great Gulf Fixed = Door shut. No more individual salvation.
