Egyptian Plagues

Did the 10 plagues on Egypt typify the ones on the Church in Tribulation and Judgment? Let's examine.

PLAGUES ON EGYPT: A TYPE OF GOD’S JUDGMENT ON THE CHURCH?

1) TURNING WATER TO BLOOD

Ex 7:20 And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.

Ps 105:29 He turned their waters into blood, and slew their fish.

Re 17:15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.

Re 11:6 These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.

Re 8:8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;

Eze 29:3 Speak, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon that lieth in the midst of his rivers, which hath said, My river is mine own, and I have made it for myself.

Eze 32:2 Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, Thou art like a young lion of the nations, and thou art as a whale in the seas: and thou camest forth with thy rivers, and troubledst the waters with thy feet, and fouledst their rivers.

2) FROGS

Ex 8:6 And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt.

Ex 8:2 And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs:

Ps 78:45 He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.

Ps 105:30 Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings.

Re 16:13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

3) LICE

Ex 8:17 And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and it became lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.

Ps 105:31 He spake, and there came divers sorts of flies, and lice <03654> in all their coasts.

Isa 51:6 Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner <03654>: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.

4) FLIES

Ex 8:21 Else, if thou wilt not let my people go, behold, I will send swarms <06157> of flies upon thee, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thy houses: and the houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground whereon they are.

Ps 78:45 He sent divers sorts of flies <06157> among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.

Mt 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

Isa 7:18 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall hiss for the fly <02070> that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.

Isa 7:19 And they shall come, and shall rest all of them in the desolate valleys, and in the holes of the rocks, and upon all thorns, and upon all bushes.

Ec 10:1 Dead flies <02070> cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour.

5) DEATH OF CATTLE

Ex 9:6 And the LORD did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one.

Ps 78:48 He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.

Ps 78:50 He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence <01698>;

Eze 28:23 For I will send into her pestilence <01698>, and blood into her streets; and the wounded shall be judged in the midst of her by the sword upon her on every side; and they shall know that I am the LORD.

Ho 13:14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues <01698>; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.

Ac 24:5 For we have found this man a pestilent <3061> fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:

6) BOIL

Ex 9:9 And it shall become small dust in all the land of Egypt, and shall be a boil <07822> breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast, throughout all the land of Egypt.

7) THUNDER AND HAIL

Ex 9:23 And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder <06963> and hail <01259>, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt.

Ps 18:13 The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice <06963>; hail <01259> stones and coals of fire.

Isa 30:30 And the LORD shall cause his glorious voice <06963> to be heard, and shall shew the lighting down of his arm, with the indignation of his anger, and with the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones <01259>.

Re 16:21 And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

8) LOCUSTS

Ex 10:13 And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east <06921> wind <07307> brought the locusts.

Re 9:3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.

Ps 105:34 He spake, and the locusts came, and caterpillers, and that without number,

2Ch 7:13 If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;

9) DARKNESS (absence of light)

Ex 10:22 And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days:

Na 1:8 But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall PURSUE his enemies.

Ex 15:9 The enemy said, I will PURSUE, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.

Job 3:5 Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.

10) DEATH OF THE FIRSTBORN

Ex 12:29 And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle.

Mt 19:30 But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.

Ge 48:17 And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father’s hand, to remove it from Ephraim’s head unto Manasseh’s head.

Ge 48:18 And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this is the firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head.

Ge 48:19 And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than HE, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.

SUMMARY CONCLUSION

It seems the ten plagues on Egypt in some aspect were spiritually pointing to God’s wrath on the church on judgment day. They appear to tie into the principle that the church judges the church. God sets his enemies on themselves to devour each other.
