Often points spiritually to the unsaved within the corporate church such as the hypocritical scribes and Pharisees (picture of church leaders) were viewed as dead bones (Mt 23:27 / Ez 37:11). Depending on context, it can also point to believers who are bone of His bone (Bone of Christ - Ep 5:30-32).
