| A Biblical look in the first resurrection mentioned in Revelation 20:5-6 and 1Thessalonians 4:16. Is it possible that those who rise first are the elect of the past who have died? Is God also raising them spiritually to be included in the Temple that is coming to its perfection today? |

Christ the Word: 2Co 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling^2644 the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 2Co 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled^2644 us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. Re 19:13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
Christ (the Word) is revealed today: Lu 17:30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed^601. Eph 3:5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed^601 unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; 1Jo 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. Lu 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Lu 17:21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
Did Christ come alone? Eph 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 1Th 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep^2837 in Jesus will God bring with him. 1Th 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep^2837. Heb 11:39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: Heb 11:40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect. Jude 1:14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, (appears to be everyone) Mt 25:31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy^40 angels^32 with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: Lu 9:26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy^40 angels^32. Re 14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy^40 angels^32, and in the presence of the Lamb: 1Co 13:10 But when that which is perfect^5046 is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age^5046, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Eph 2:21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: Eph 1:10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: 1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds^3507, to meet the Lord in the air^109: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud^3509 of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Re 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds^3507; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. Re 11:12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud^3507; and their enemies beheld them. Eph 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air^109, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Re 9:2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air^109 were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. Re 16:17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air^109; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.
The First Resurrection: Believers of the past? 1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first^4412: Re 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first^4413 resurrection. Re 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first^4413 resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years. 1Co 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. Ps 102:26 They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed: Heb 1:12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail. 1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up^726 together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Re 12:5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up^726 unto God, and to his throne. Re 11:12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their
When is the Last Day? Joh 6:39 And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last^2078 day^2250. Joh 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last^2078 day^2250. Joh 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last^2078 day^2250. Joh 6:54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last^2078 day^2250. Joh 7:37 In the last^2078 day^2250, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. Zec 14:16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.
Conclusion: By God’s grace, when we begin to tie in all the verses that have to do with the revelation of Christ and the general resurrection it seems those who experience the first resurrection are the believers who had died prior to the coming of the Lord. Christ comes with them because this is a time when the temple (whole body of Christ) is being made perfect. The rest of the dead we read about in Revelation 20:5 appears to point to the past believers. They are the first to rise followed by those who are today being gathered. Those being caught up to complete the Temple. What is still unclear is whether or not the first resurrection was the time when those believers came to have a new body in heaven. If so, would that have miraculously come from the remains of their old bodies in the grave?
