Yea Yea, Nay Nay

How can we understand Mat 5:37? Let's examine.

YEA YEA: CHRIST THE WORD?

Mt 5:37 But let your COMMUNICATION <3056> be, YEA, YEA; NAY, NAY: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

Mt 13:19 When any one heareth the WORD <3056> of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

Mt 13:21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the WORD <3056>, by and by he is offended.

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the WORD, and the Word was with God, and the WORD <3056> was GOD.

Joh 1:14 And the WORD <3056> was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Jas 5:12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your YEA be YEA; and your NAY, NAY; lest ye fall into condemnation.

2Co 1:17 When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be YEA YEA, and NAY NAY?

2Co 1:20 For all the promises of God in him are YEA, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

NAY NAY: CHRIST THE WORD - THINGS WHICH ARE NOT?

Mt 5:37 But let your COMMUNICATION <3056> be, YEA, YEA; NAY, NAY <3756>: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

Mt 8:8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not <3756> worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the WORD <3056> only, and my servant shall be healed.

Ro 4:17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be NOT as though they were.

1Co 1:27 But God hath chosen the FOOLISH things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the WEAK things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

1Co 1:28 And BASE things of the world, and things which are DESPISED, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are NOT, to bring to nought things that are:

2Co 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in WEAKNESS. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

2Co 13:4 For though he was crucified through WEAKNESS, yet he liveth by the POWER of God. For we also are WEAK IN HIM, but we shall live with him by the POWER OF GOD toward you.

Isa 26:5 For he bringeth down them that dwell on high; the lofty city, he layeth it low; he layeth it low, even to the ground; he bringeth it even to the dust.

Isa 29:19 The meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the POOR among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

Zep 3:12 I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and POOR PEOPLE, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD.

Mt 5:3 Blessed are the POOR IN SPIRIT: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Mt 20:16 So the LAST shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.

YEA AND NAY: CONFUSION, LUKEWARM BABYLON?

Mt 5:37 But let your COMMUNICATION be, YEA, YEA; NAY, NAY: for whatsoever is more than these COMETH OF EVIL.

2Co 1:18 But as God is true, our WORD toward you was NOT YEA AND NAY.

2Co 1:19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was NOT YEA AND NAY, but IN HIM WAS YEA.

Re 3:15 I know thy works, that thou art NEITHER COLD NOR HOT: I would thou wert cold or hot.

Re 3:16 So then because thou art LUKEWARM, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

Pr 25:25 As COLD waters to a thirsty soul, so is GOOD NEWS from a far country.

Jas 1:8 A DOUBLE MINDED man is unstable in all his ways.

Isa 29:13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

Mt 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for EITHER he will hate the one, and love the other; or ELSE he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Eph 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, TOSSED TO AND FRO, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

SUMMARY CONCLUSION

God appears to be making a distinction between YEA and NAY. Where both seem to relate to the Christ and the unsaved church that was to be redeemed. So it’s either the salvation provided by Christ who is the WORD, or Babylon who is both YEA AND NAY. The earthly picture there would be someone who has no certainty of WORD (CHRIST)? They can’t be trusted.
