Accepting Deliverance

How does Hebrews 11:35 tie into the affliction of the Elect in tribulation? Let's examine.

AFFLICTION: TRIBULATION ENDURED BY GOD’S PEOPLE?

Heb 11:35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were <tortured>, **NOT accepting deliverance <5178>**; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

<Strong's #5178: tumpanizo (pronounced toom-pan-id'-zo) from a derivative of 5180 (meaning a drum, "tympanum"); to stretch on an instrument of torture resembling a drum, and thus beat to death:--torture.>

Heb 11:36 And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

Heb 11:37 They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;

Heb 11:38 (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

Heb 11:39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:

Heb 11:40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

Heb 11:25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the **pleasures of sin** for a season;

Ps 84:10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to **dwell in the tents of wickedness**.

Heb 10:32 But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;

Ro 5:3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

Ro 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Da 3:10 Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, shall fall down and worship the golden image:

Da 3:12 There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; these men, O king, have NOT regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

Da 6:16 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.

Re 13:15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

DELIVERANCE: FALSE ASSURANCE OF SALVATION?

Heb 11:35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, NOT accepting deliverance (salvation); that they might obtain a better resurrection:

Jer 7:10 And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?

Jud 10:14 Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you (save) in the TIME OF YOUR TROUBLE.

Jer 8:11 For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.

1Th 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

Isa 58:3 Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours.

Re 11:10 And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.

BETTER RESURRECTION: CHRIST?

Heb 11:35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, NOT accepting deliverance (salvation); that they might obtain a BETTER resurrection:

Joh 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the LIFE: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

Lu 20:36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection (Christ).

Re 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the FIRST resurrection.

Joh 5:29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of LIFE; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

Ac 24:15 And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

SUMMARY CONCLUSION

Heb 11:35 appears to be focusing on the believers choosing to be tortured or afflicted rather than enjoy deliverance (salvation) which would spiritually relate to the freedom the church engaged in at the killing of the two witness in tribulation. The choice the church was faced with was to either suffer with Christ (torture) or enjoy pleasure apart from God (ungodly deliverance).
